Svetlana Yurievna Poliakova is Assistant Professor at the Department of Music Sciences at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCSH/NOVA). Since 2003 she has been a researcher at the Research Centre on the Sociology and Aesthetics of Music (CESEM) at FCSH / NOVA, Early Music Studies Group, where she created (in 2018) and directs the project Christian Orthodox Chant in Portugal. Born in Russia, a Portuguese citizen since 1988, she graduated from the Tchaikovsky Superior Conservatory in Moscow and received her PhD in Musical-Historical Sciences at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (2009) with a PhD dissertation on medieval Slavic and Byzantine sacred music. Currently, she is finalizing the post-Doctoral project “Russian Sticheraria of the Triodion Cycle: at the Crossroads of Traditions” (under the supervision of Prof. Doctor Manuel Pedro Ferreira, FCSH, CESEM, UNL and Prof. Christian Troelsgaard, University of Copenhagen, Saxo Instituttet), supported by FCSH, CESEM and Saxo Instituttet, University of Copenhagen. She is a founding member of the International Society for Orthodox Church Music (ISOCM), University of Joensuu, Finland, of which she was a member of the Board. She founded and is directing the Pravoslava Chamber Choir (since 2002) and the Romanos Melodos Academic Choir (FCSH, Department of Musical Sciences; since 2011), both dedicated to the interpretation of Christian Orthodox Chant repertoires.
