Fado Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

The significative role of INET-MD in the application.

The incorporation of Fado in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recently approved by the International Committee of UNESCO, counted on the active participation, as a scientific partner, of the Institute of Ethnomusicology - Center for Music and Dance (INET-MD), one of the FCSH’s research units.

The work was coordinated by Professors Salwa Castelo-Branco and Rui Vieira Nery, integrated researchers in INET-MD.

INET-MD will collaborate in implementing the program  designed for safeguarding  Fado that includes, among other actions, the establishment of a digital sound archive, the publication of books and ethnographic recordings, and the implementation of educational and research programs.
