Castro is currently a researcher at CHAM – Centre for the Humanities and co-coordinator of the “Contemporary Tourist Gazes” research line at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (FCSH/NOVA) and the University of the Azores.
She graduated in Tourism Management, holds a postgraduate degree in International Relations and a PhD in Art History and was a Postdoctoral research fellow funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Her field of specialisation centre on the Sciences of Art and Global Circulations within the History of Contemporary Culture focusing on the relation between Art and Power with regard to Travel and Tourism in the context of Postcolonial Studies.
Castro participated in scientific committees, organized international conferences, and published articles and papers in Portugal, Brazil, Croatia, Dubai, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Romania, Scotland, Spain, S. Tomé and Príncipe, Sri Lanka and Zanzibar.
